Boy on scooter hurt in collision

A seven-year-old boy is in hospital with serious head injuries after he was hit by a 4x4 vehicle near his home in Essex.The accident happened in Manningtree at the junction of Quay Street and The Walls outside the Crown pub. The injured boy was on a non-motorised scooter on Sunday afternoon when he was hit by a Kia 4x4. The driver, a local man in his 40s, was not injured. The child was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge for treatment. The road was closed for two and a half hours while emergency services dealt with the incident and Essex Police are appealing for witnesses.
